Chapter 3. Branding, Logo, and Visual Identity Guidelines

Important Information
  • The logo is the main identifier of the Annual Meeting. Its application is explained in the visual identity guidelines, which establish the Annual Meeting brand through the consistent use of graphics, typography and colors.
  • The logo is applied to all printed and digital materials, signs, and websites.
  • The logo must be easily recognizable, simple, and highly visible.
  • The logo must be easy to reproduce in black and white and in color and in small or large formats.
  • The logo may be used by sponsors after approval by ADB and the host country.

Related Tasks

Visual identity is a critical element in the branding of the ADB Annual Meeting. The consistent use of logos, color, typography, design and imagery across all Annual Meeting communications materials help to establish a unified, instantly recognizable brand.

Annual Meeting Logo

The ADB Annual Meeting’s main identifier is the Unity logo.

To ensure consistency and maintain brand recognition, the Unity logo is used from one annual meeting to the next. While the Unity logo is recurring, the logo’s color will change from one year to the next to reflect an aspect, cultural, historical, or thematic of the host country.

The Unity logo is also able to accommodate a simple mono/duo tone illustration inside the negative spaced square, if the host country decides it wants to add a more local flavor to the logo. However, the "Unity" logo can stand on its own and there is no requirement for the host country to provide an illustration if it prefers not to do so.

Other elements that contribute toward a unified brand identity and serve as marks of recognition for the event – such as the word marks and background design motifs are also modified each year to ensure that event materials reflect the unique “personality” of the host country.

Timeline

  1. ADB prepares design studies displaying the Unity logo, color and word marks specific to the host country. (20 months before event).
  2. The design studies are shared with the host country for comments and approval.

Host country informs ADB if it:
    • prefers to use the unadorned Unity logo or plans to provide a simple illustration to place inside the Unity logo
    • endorses the primary colors of the logo chosen by ADB or plan to suggest alternative colors

    Host country

    • provides ADB with a design motif. The illustration should be sent to ADB in high resolution in a vector. (19 months before event)
  3. Using the approved design studies as the foundation, ADB produces the Annual Meeting visual identity guidelines (VIG), which applies the brand identity to all Annual Meeting communication materials. (17 months before event).
  4. The Annual Meeting VIG is shared with the host country. (15 months before event). Production of event materials is then able to begin.
